One of Tokyo's most popular cherry-blossom viewing spots along the moat of the Imperial Palace
Chidorigafuchi, where about 270 Somei Yoshino cherry trees and Oshima cherry trees bloom along the moat of the Imperial Palace, is one of the most famous cherry blossom viewing spots in Tokyo. There is a promenade from Kudanshita Station to Hanzomon Station, where you can stroll down the cherry blossom tunnel. There is also a boating area where you can take a rowboat while looking up at the cherry blossoms from the moat; and a park area with benches to sit on. However, picnics with leisure sheets are not allowed. The toilets are located in the Kudanzaka Park on the Kudanshita Station side and the Chidorigafuchi Park on the Hanzomon Station side, and are in very good condition. During the Sakura Festival, the cherry blossoms will be illuminated with LED lighting at night, so you can enjoy the breathtaking scenery unique to Japan. A Multilingual guide application is available for download.
Chidorigafuchi National Cemetery, a national Japanese cemetery and memorial for unidentified war dead of the Second World War, is built inside Chidorigafuchi. Its solemn atmosphere makes you forget that you are in the center of Tokyo. Next to the Rokkakudo, which is the ossuary, there are flowers available to purchase for one hundred yen each, so that visitors can show their commemoration. The Sazare stone (limestone breccia), which is also sung in the national anthem of Japan, is displayed in the park and can be seen up close. It is a place where people who love history and earth sciences should definitely visit.
