A park to take a break by the sea, and enjoy the view of the Rainbow Bridge
Metropolitan Tokyo is full of skyscrapers. Shiokaze Park is like an oasis in the concrete jungle. It is a historic park in Odaiba, which was completed in 1974. It is popular not only with Tokyo residents but also with tourists as a place of relaxation. Spots in the park such as the Hidamari Hiroba (Sun Plaza) with an enormous open space for a variety of purposes including picnics and other events; the "Yuhi no To (tower of the evening sun)" where you can see a mysterious light when the sun sets in a gap in the center of the tower on the vernal equinox and autumnal equinox; the "Hidamari Hiroba (sun plaza) " which is a recreation area for children, etc. Shiokaze Park has been selected as the venue for beach volleyball at the Tokyo Olympics. A temporary stadium will be built during the session. As part of it is under construction until November 31, 2020, some areas are not able to be enter.
Shiokaze Park is a place where you can enjoy strolling and BBQ, but one of the most attractive aspects for travelers is the night view. The Rainbow Bridge glitters over Tokyo Bay, and you can see Tokyo Tower behind it. The night view here is certainly breathtaking, but it is recommended to take photos a little earlier in the evening when the sky begins to darken. You can capture the moment when the sky gradually changes color from orange to purple, and eventually to deep blue. Apart from the signature Rainbow Bridge, the Shinagawa container facility along the coastline is also a must visit spot. The sight of giant steel-framed camel-like machines floating in orange light is truly spectacular. The park is divided into north and south areas, but if you want to see the Rainbow Bridge, the north area is recommended.
Although part of the Shiokaze Park is currently closed due to the construction work for the Olympics, the view from the Statue of Liberty and the pier, which serves as a stop for the water bus, is equally enjoyable. You can also see Odaiba, which was once built to repel Perry from the United States during the isolation from the Edo period, and the remains of it are still impressive. It is recommended to visit the Odaiba area during the open hours before dinner, and visit the high-rise skyscrapers and Rainbow Bridge during the evening. You will sure be delighted by the breathtaking scenery while feeling the sea breeze.
With about a 5 minutes walk from Odaiba Station on the Tokyo Inland Train Line and Tokyo International Cruise Terminal Station, it is very easy to access from sightseeing spots around Odaiba. It can also be reached in about 10 minutes on foot from the Tokyo Teleport Station on the Rinkai Line. If you are using the Tokyo Mizube Line, the Odaiba Seaside Park nearby. There is a possibility that construction and traffic regulation may be carried out for the Tokyo Olympics, so please visit the official page. https://tokyo2020.org/ja/venues/shiokaze-park
