One of the most famous cherry blossom spots in Tokyo
Inokashira Park is one of the most famous cherry blossom spots in Tokyo, with 400 "Someiyoshino" and "Yamazakura" in total signaling the arrival of spring every year. The park is centered around a pond that was used as the water source for the first water supply to Kanda Josui, which was drawn to Edo, and has a history of being first opened in Japan as a suburban park in 1917. It is also a popular sightseeing spot in autumn as the lush greeneries turn into a colorful palette of red, orange, and yellow. The park's spacious grounds surrounding the pond make it a great location for multiple purposes, such as relaxing on the benches, playing with children, or exercising near the stadium area. You can also take a little boat trip on the pond for a better view of the scenery!
In spring, you will be greeted by wonderful cherry blossom trees. The ones planted around the pond will extend their branches toward the water. It is highly recommended to look at them more closely from a boat. Boats in various sizes are available for rental, which is very popular amongst young couples and families. Enjoy the boat's unique view of moving slowly over the calm water.
Around the pond are rows of cherry blossom trees and Benzaiten Shrine, visited by many local worshippers. It is a great place to get a unique glimpse of the religious culture in Japan. As it is a famous spot for cherry blossoms, you can also enjoy them from different angles, from above the bridge to along the avenue, from across the bank or from a boat. Don't forget to go around the pond and find your own best cherry blossom spots! There are also many cafes around, so you can relax and take a deep breathe in the beauty of nature.
Although Inokashira Park is known as a popular dating spot for young couples, it is a multi-purpose spot that is great for family activities, exercise, jogging and sightseeing. In addition to being able to enjoy the nature and the clear water in the middle of Tokyo, you can also touch on the history of the park and observe the amazing ecology of plants and animals. In addition to the convenience of just a minute walk from Inokashira Park Station on the Keio Inokashira line, it is also only 5 minutes away from Kichijoji Station, which is always ranked high on the list of "the most popular area to reside in Tokyo". The famous Jiburi Museum in Mitaka is a must-see spot for sightseeing at Kichijoji.
