A Hidden Urban Retreat to Savor the Flavors of Kyushu and the Blessings of the Seasons
"Nishiazabu Goku" is about a 10-minute walk from Hiroo Station, 13 minutes from Roppongi Station, and only 8 minutes from Roppongi Hills, nestled in a quiet street of Nishiazabu — a hidden gem known only to those in the know. Here, you’ll find a rich selection of Japanese dishes that pair perfectly with drinks, from hot pots featuring seasonal vegetables to their signature “Goku Gyoza” served with yuzu pepper and shiso, and seared mackerel sashimi with a smoky aroma. The dishes go perfectly with a range of drinks, offering a luxurious and leisurely dining experience. Going beyond traditional Japanese cuisine, Goku’s creative touches and dedication to showcasing the best of the ingredients captivate even the most discerning foodies. With its calm atmosphere, it’s the perfect “grown-ups’ hideaway” for a special and relaxing time.
The recommended dish is the "Kuroge Wagyu Shabu-Shabu B Course", starring premium Kuroge Wagyu beef. It begins with small bites for drinks, includes horse sashimi directly from Kumamoto, Aso-raised Akaushi steak, and more — a total of 9 dishes showcasing the best of Kyushu. The main highlight is the A5-grade “Kuroge Wagyu Sirloin” shabu-shabu. The tender, marbled beef releases a rich umami flavor with every bite. Fresh vegetables from contract farmers pair perfectly with “Fukuoka’s Daidai Ponzu” and a house-made sesame sauce with a punch of garlic. The meal finishes with silky kishimen noodles, followed by a dessert of smooth coffee vanilla ice cream.
For those who want even more, there’s also a "C Course" with 90 minutes of all-you-can-drink included for 13,200 yen (tax and service charge included).
Other course options include sukiyaki, motsunabe (offal hot pot), and mizutaki (chicken hot pot), allowing you to choose according to your preference.
The "Seared Motsunabe", made with Japanese beef offal and smoked with cherry wood chips, is also a popular choice. You can choose from miso or soy sauce broth to enjoy this fragrant dish. Hot pot dishes are available for two or more, making it perfect even for small groups.
The à la carte menu also showcases the restaurant’s prowess. The "Goku Gyoza", enjoyed with a special condiment of yuzu pepper and shiso, is simple yet addictive. The "Horse Sashimi Three-Variety Platter" and horse liver sashimi, directly shipped from Kumamoto, offer an irresistible melt-in-your-mouth texture and rich flavor. They’re usually served with a sweet house-made soy sauce and freshly grated ginger.
Stepping inside, you’ll find refined white walls and wooden floors that create an upscale ambiance. Natural light filters through the arched windows, making the space bright and calming. Displayed glasses, teapots, and art on the walls are also highlights. With soft lighting, it’s perfect for conversations and savoring the dishes at a leisurely pace. There are three types of private rooms and spacious tables to suit any occasion. The red-and-gray exterior leaves a striking impression, and at night, the lights enhance the “hidden hideaway” feel. Coupled with attentive service, every visit promises a special experience.
