An Immersive Miyazaki Dining Experience: Local Chicken and Sake to Remember

Just a 3-minute walk from Okachimachi Station, Kikusui is a renowned Japanese restaurant specializing in authentic regional cuisine from Miyazaki. Indulge in dishes crafted with premium ingredients like jidori (local free-range chicken) and Miyazaki wagyu beef sourced directly from the region. Complement your meal with a curated selection of shochu (Japanese distilled spirits) and sake from across Japan. From à la carte options to full-course meals, every dish celebrates Kyushu’s bold, savory flavors. Enjoy delicacies such as jidori sashimi (raw chicken slices) and tataki ponzu (lightly seared chicken with citrus-soy sauce)—rare finds outside Kyushu. Step into a taste of Miyazaki without leaving Tokyo.

  • Miyazaki Jitokko Chicken Course – ¥3,500 (tax incl.): A popular set menu featuring Kikusui’s house specialties.

  • Hi-Bashira-yaki – S ¥1,100 / L ¥1,650: A bold Miyazaki classic grilled over high flames for a smoky finish.

We highly recommend the Miyazaki Jitokko Chicken Course (¥3,500 incl. tax)—a six-dish lineup featuring the rich flavor of jidori (local heritage chicken) sent directly from Miyazaki. Starting with a seasonal appetizer, the course continues with jidori salad, sashimi, signature hi-bashira-yaki (flame-seared chicken), homemade chicken nanban, and a rice dish to finish. Hi-bashira-yaki is grilled over intense charcoal fire, releasing savory aromas. For a second flavor experience, mix leftover chicken oil into the rice. A 2-hour all-you-can-drink option (¥5,500) is also available with carefully selected sake and shochu.

  • Yakitori – from ¥270 (charcoal-grilled chicken skewers)

  • Kikusui’s Special Wagyu Steak – 100g from ¥2,200

  • Sushi made with fresh fish and wagyu

  • Jidori Omelet Fried Rice (chicken fried rice with fluffy egg)

  • Kama-age udon (hot udon served straight from boiling water)

  • House-made Lemon Sour – ¥750 / Lemonade – ¥550: Refreshing drinks with plenty of fresh lemon slices

Kikusui offers a variety of dishes centered on jidori (free-range chicken). Limited-quantity yakitori is grilled over charcoal, highlighting the unique textures of each cut. The luxurious wagyu steak melts in your mouth with a perfect balance of umami and fat. Other highlights include sushi with seafood and wagyu, satisfying jidori omelet fried rice, and comforting kama-age udon. Each dish pairs beautifully with Kyushu shochu and regional sake carefully selected by the Miyazaki-native owner.
