An authentic British pub in Shinjuku, where the languages and cultures of many countries come and go.

As soon as you enter Shinjuku Kabukicho Ichibangai, an inviting British-style pub comes into view along the street on your left.
With an abundance of drinks from around the world—beer first among them—and delicious food, St. James draws a diverse crowd, from first-timers to regulars.
On weekends in particular it is open from around midday until 5 a.m., perfect as a lunch or café spot by day and, by night, the ideal place to spend those hours when you still want another drink before the first train. Open year-round, it is also great for a drink today, a second stop, an event, or a get-together.
It is also a rare and precious place where, unusually these days, smoking is allowed at every seat and paper cigarettes may be smoked; cigars are enjoyed inside as well.
Because everyone can enjoy it regardless of group size, gender, or nationality, it is a popular pub with visitors from overseas and solo guests alike.

  • Savoring carefully chosen whisky and cigars

  • British beer taps (London Pride / Guinness)

  • Beer available in a wide range of sizes

  • Sometimes a place to take a breather as a café

  • A fine selection of domestic whisky as well

True to its name as a British pub, it stocks an abundance of beers from the UK, Belgium, Germany, the US, and Japan. Beyond bottles, you can enjoy them in the size that suits your mood—a pint, a half-pint, Small, Large, and more. In particular, England's "London Pride" and Ireland-born "Guinness" are pints you will surely want to taste now that you have come to a British pub.
Famous names from around the world gather here too—from Scotch whisky's Johnnie Walker to the Japanese whiskies "Yamazaki," "Hibiki," and "Hakushu"—so this is a great chance to give them a try.
With a rich variety of Scotch, single malts, bourbon, cocktails, and more, a whole new world feels ready to unfold.

  • The popular 10-inch crispy pizza

  • Preparing the carefully made homemade pizza

  • The American home-style dish "mac & cheese" tastes sinfully good

  • Beef & ale pie, a traditional British dish simmered in beer

  • Beef simmered in ale

St. James serves drinks from around the world, and naturally its food is much the same, with a British yet multinational character.
From American dishes such as the classic fish, chicken, and chips, the popular homemade crispy pizza prepared from the dough up, and "mac & cheese"—an American home-style dish of macaroni and cheese—to traditional British fare like Scotch eggs, beef & ale pie, and cottage pie, and flavors from around the world such as ajillo and cheese nachos, there is much to enjoy.
There are also plenty of beer essentials, including jerk chicken, beef simmered in ale, and charcuterie platters.
With an abundant 500-yen coin menu of items such as chocolate, scones, nuts and cheese, duck bacon, and salami, it is also perfect for those who want to nibble on just a little.

  • St. James, visible right as you enter Kabukicho Ichibangai

  • On fine days, the terrace seats with the night breeze

  • An interior with a calming vintage atmosphere

  • Great for watching sports, too

  • Comparing the different labels is fun as well

St. James stands in the heart of the city, among the lively downtown streets.
With a cash-on system where you pay and receive your drink on the spot, it is easy to drop in for just a single drink. Half of the seating is standing and half is table seating, so another part of its charm is being able to choose depending on your mood that day.
There are also monitors up above for watching sports, and on days with baseball or soccer matches the place comes alive with guests of every nationality. Be sure to check the in-store blackboard and the signage out front, which show the day's recommended dishes and a map of the surrounding area.
Why not come and experience this authentic British pub for yourself, where the languages and cultures of many countries come and go?
