Located a two minute walk from JR Ebisu station (Yamanote Line), is 'Shab-yaki Fukunoya', a restaurant which specialises in high quality and the luxurious Japanese pufferfish. This is a place in which one can enjoy foods produced in Japan, such as Japanese pufferfish and crab in a new style of cooking 'Shabu-Yaki'.
Fugu (Japanese pufferfish) is often eaten sliced thinly and raw or in a pot, however by frying, the flavours are condensed and become addictive. Even if you are new to Shakuyaki, it is fine, as staff will direct you on how to do it. The interior of the shop has a modern Japanese feel to it and there are private booths where one can enjoy their meal.
Shabuyaki refers to the style in which customers fry their own food and eat. Customers can enjoy Japanese pufferfish, King crab, Hairy crab and octopus from Hokkaido. The dishes of course come with an explanation from staff on how to cook the dishes just right.
The signature dish of the restaurant is the Japanese pufferfish, which has been raised in a controlled environment in the ocean. The pufferfish, served in thick slices, become richer and the flavour more condensed once cooked. The plump texture as well as the flavour is irresistible. Thichly sliced Pufferfish Sashimi; is a popular dish in which one can enjoy the delicious taste and tender texture of the fish. To eat, customers put the fish on Chinese cabbage with grated horse radish and Ponzu sauce. Customers are sure to love the combination as another way of enjoying Fugu.
Deep fried Torafugu; the outside is crunchy and the inside soft and juicy. It is a dish that has the luxurious and rich taste of the Fugu. The famous 'Hire Sake (Pufferfish fin Sake)' is one that no Pufferfish restaurant can go without. At this restaurant, the size of the fin is its selling point; the taste of the Fugu is elegantly transferred to the Sake and serves a tasty mouthful. Customers can also enjoy Japanese Sake which is lit on fire while being poured. There are also other a la carte menu items to be enjoyed as well as courses. The interior of the store is designed in black and allows for a stylish yet relaxing space. The table booths are separated by cloth, allowing privacy from other parties and a space in which one can not worry about other people's voices or eyes. Private booths are also available.
